Venture capital is the provision of risk bearing capital, usually invest in company with high growth potential, seeking a high return often through stock listing.

Many invest in young start-up company, but more commonly invest in small company which already has good business development and need additional funds to grow.

Venture capitalist may invest in:

a） Business start-up: business has been set up by somebody and need finance to get off ground.

b） Business development: e.g new product, new market, business acquisition

c） Management buyout: managers buy part or all equity from its owner.
